Tom Holland, the most recent actor to don the Webslinger costume has confirmed that he has a 6 film contract with Marvel and Sony.
A contract containing 3 Solo Spiderman films and a 3 appearances in other Marvel films.
“They give you options and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies though. I do know I have three Spider-Man (appearances in other) movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They’re very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.”
Now please, please don’t think this confirms 6 Spiderman appearances in Marvel Solo films or any other film. This means that if Marvel want to use him he is contractually obligated to return to the character. It does not mean Marvel and Sony have plans set to use him, while I do think they will end up using all 6 of them appearances, its not a guarantee in any way.
Hugo Weaving who played Red Skull in Captain America the First Avenger, is contracted to 3 Marvel films and while he has let his feelings about the character and process of getting into the character well known. He has said if they want him to play the character again he will.
It’s standard preceding for every film like this now. They all contract their actors down for 9 or so films now and it should be called the Robert Downey Deal. This is because after Downey’s contract ran out after Iron Man 3 he held Marvel up for a lot of money and they had to give in, so you can be sure no one wants to go through that again.
